Hyrbis' Head Tremor Video

My dog's been diagnosed with Epilepsia for more than a year now, and yet I've never been able to shake the feeling it's something else, and one day I tripped over videos of dogs on here with the same kind of head tremors, which were diagnosed with Idiopathic Head Tremor.

Having read up on it, I'm more and more sure that's what she has, but I need a doctor to confirm it first, and maybe some of you who have dogs with this disorder could give me some tips?

She's a 1½ year old whippet, by the way.

Hi,? don't know ...
Hi,? don't know what it is, but I got a Doberman that it happens to as well, I just open her mouth? witch kinda seems to be lockedjawed sort of, and kinda press down on her tongue with my finger, sorta like the Doc does with that stick to check your throat, it works every time instantly, try it, good luck, what a sweet dog hey?

We've had a dog ...
We've had a dog that has had these tremors for years. After having them so long, we've found patterns and dicovered things. one thing we dicovered is that when the weather is worse (like the kind of weather that makes arthritis act up) it also brings on the episodes of tremors. i posted a comment on here stating that we think it could be due to having their necks pulled? by use of a collar or such, and we think that the weather might cause inflammtion in the neck causing the episodes

that has nothing ...
that has nothing to? do with it.

I have a dog that ...
I have a dog that has this and we recently ran into another dog of the same breed that has it. We find that having them stand up and extend their necks downward and maybe munch on some kibble makes the tremors stop. i don't suggest giving her any epileptic medications prescribed by vets because the medicines themself are more dangerout than the wobbling. we've also come to the conclusion that it may be from their? necks being pulled on? so perhaps using a harness can alleviate some of the tremors

stop feeding ...
stop feeding kibbles , start feeding fresh meat? only ! you wil see it will disappear!!!!!! Then you wil beleve the dogfoodfactory is to blame!

Hybris can move ...
Hybris can move about with this going on, and be fully aware of everything around her. The seizures have been less and less though. She's living with my? mother now, and has about a seizure a week, or so.

Our greyhound does ...
Our greyhound does it too, usually when he is lying flat out on his side,? and if we get him up, 90% of the time it stops.

A local neurologist ...
A local neurologist said not to do the honey? because it can sometimes carry botchulism in it.

When my dog has ...
When my dog has them if I engage him in play (fetch, tug,? etc) he stops having his head tremors. Try that and see if it works. Some people claim raw diets stop it though I have not tired this myself.

If? you see them, ...
If? you see them, give a squirt of Honey or syrup in the mouth, our vet said its also brought on by a sugar low,

Give him a squirt ...
Give him a squirt of honey in the mouth, our Bulldogs have? head tremors on occasion

What is her? kennel ...
What is her? kennel name (and does she have a site on whippet archives?) Her seizures looks same as a whippet of my sister. We're worried althought it doesn't seem to be painful to the dog at all :(

My 5 year old ...
My 5 year old greyhound had the same hea tremors. During one of his tremors I grabbed a bottle of Rescue Remedy, rubbed a couple of drops on his nose & gums and the tremors stopped immediately. I switched him to raw diet and they stopped for a year, but have recently? reappeared. The Rescue Remedy does stop the tremors, but not as effectively as in the past,

well maybe for you. ...
well maybe for you.. but my dog paws me to let me know it's time for her to eat or wants to go outside.. believe me she isn't the dominant one.. and i don't think you know much about dogs to actually determine that.. you don't know this dog so i wouldn't? judge it by watching a video.

No...The padding ...
No...The padding she did seems? that she was dominating her owner...That's the dog's world!

My? 1 year 4mon ...
My? 1 year 4mon boxer had an accident where he hit a car with his head, hes still healing, but since he started having this. I dont know why or if its dangerous to him!! he never before had this!!

My poodle just got ...
My poodle just got diagnosed today with the idiopathic head tremors. There is no treatment and my vet said when? they have the tremors under the chin so the head can rest on and they should stop.

the pawing of your ...
the pawing of your dog looked like a sign of help .... she knows there's? something wrong :(

According to our ...
According to our Vet, there is no treating it. But it's also not harmful to the? dog. Hybris realizes when she has these seizures, but is not in pain, or scared.

My 1 year 2 month? ...
My 1 year 2 month? old whippet dog Rio had this happen today. It just came out of the blue and lasted only a minute but it was exactly like this but a little slower. I was wondering if you have learned anything more about what it is and how to treat it? Thank you for posting this. -Nat

Most of the times ...
Most of the times the food (kibble) is to blame. Many dogs (especially boxers) have problem with dry food. Stop feeding dry food and evrything that has preservatives (dog biscuits etch) Feed only fresh food, cook for your dog or try barf (raw). Also run some tests related to? thyroid or sugar levels

Hi, I'm sure this ...
Hi, I'm sure this is 'idiopahtic head bobbing', more common in bulldogs, boxers,? dobermanns and labradors, google 'buster's head tremors' to see an identical version and a reply from Dr Eric Glass, top canine neurologist confirming it, it's harmless.

No, she wasn't. ...
No, she wasn't. This happens to her on a weekly basis, sometimes even twice a week. She is totally alert while it happens, and will even keep playing. In the beginning it scared her, but she's used to? it now.

My puppy had this ...
My puppy had this happen on Friday so I rushed her the ER. It lasted about 3 hours. She also had her vaccines on Wednesday so I thought maybe she was having a reaction to them but the vets don't seem to think its that. She also yelped as if she was in pain? when she got picked up and seemed really out of it .The next day she was fine and is better than ever now. So I'm just wondering if your dog was vaccinated right before this started?

my 5 year old ...
my 5 year old pitbull just started doing this yesterday. It lasted for about 30 seconds yesterday and then he had one again today that lasted for about a minute. It was very scary. I'm scheduling an appointment with a? vet but I am afraid that they will run a bunch of unnecessary tests.

My bulldog does the ...
My bulldog does the same thing. If I feed him, the head bob stops. I asked the vet and he said it's a fairly common thing in bulldogs/boxers (not sure about whippets though). It's obviously not painful for the dog (its? worse for the owner I think!) They aren't sure what causes them, so don't waste your money on cat scan/MRI. And, I would take him off the seizure medicine because a lot of times that does more harm than good (I would do some research on that if I were you).

So far not, not ...
So far not, not that this is a harmful disorder, mostly just scary. I'm sorry for your loss though. They are quite? the personalities.

poor thing. my ...
poor thing. my whippet died this? year too. from heart failure though. did yours get better?

They are awesome ...
They are awesome dogs, indeed. I love both my? dogs to death, and thank you very much for the response <3

OMG! I hope you ...
OMG! I hope you have this sorted soon. I have lost my Whippet this year, best dogs ever. I can't see that is Epilepsia - never seen anything like it. ? Keep on trying to have this diagnosed ! ! All the best
